Thank you----Driving today we got tar on our new '07 Toyota Camry.
Tried WD40 as they suggest-----no luck
Tried internet----home run
Remembered we bought a can of Armoral Bug &^ Tar remover-----it worked. Inexpensive at KMart.
Thanks again.

I agree it had to be defective construction of the magnet. We had the bright idea of heating the magnet with a hair dryer, as well, but although it made removal slightly easier, it also heated up the car paint and caused that to be easily gauged by the scraper. Incidentally, tried Goo-Gone and there is so much of the magnet adhered to the adhesive that it does nothing! Still looking for a good solution...

The only thing you might be able to do is look under the vehicle after it is parked. This is not surefire, but many of the possible leaks will demonstrate themselves by leaving droplets of oil on the pavement under the vehicle. Also, be sure to check your oil frequently over the next few weeks.

Had oil changed last week and when taking a 300 mile trip north my Subaru started smoking. Stopped at a garage and they said there was way too much oil in my car. They emptied out oil (which was black) and put in new. How do I find out if my engine has been damaged (seals and gaskets)? Do I just have to wait till something else happens?

Thanks for any information you can provide.

The easiest thing to do is to remove the old fuse and take it to the auto parts store and replace it. If the fuse is missing, you can either contact a VW dealer and ask them, or you can visit a large auto parts place – they frequently have lists. You may also try going on-line to the VW site – it's possible they will have service data there – but it might take a little while to locate it on the site.

For the cleaning solution, you can use 409, dishwashing liquid and water, or Ivory liquid and water – among others.
